Hong Kong Maritime Museum

Screen Shot 2013-05-27 at 12.58.12 AMSeawise Giant

The largest anchor in the world from the Seawise Giant!
It is going to be placed in front of the Maritime Museum in the near future.
Picture from HKMM’s Flickr.

IMG_2654望遠鏡入面睇返隻鴨!!

Visit once is not enough!

Day visit the Museum of Costal Defence

So here we go continue covering all the museums of Hong Kong! And this is the

Museum of Coastal Defence!

——————————————————————-

How to get there/information:
http://hk.coastaldefence.museum/index.php

Parking:
Parking available at the entrance of the museum, but space is very very limited…
we were able to a spot and I guess its because we arrived there at 3pm…while only 2 hours left before the
museum close!

——————————————————————-

This is such a beautiful place by the coast line of Sau Kei Wan,
the East side of Hong Kong Island.

The place was originally a fort during the world war,
it was once a very important battlefield in the 1940s.

Cant actually believe that these heavy duty tanks was once working for HK…

covering materials of from the 600-year history of coastal defense, the place could
easily spend you half a day with the cost of HK$10 admission!

Ever wonder the history of the Murray House in Stanley?
here you can get the answer!

Theres a lot more to see than my pictures can tell

———————————————————————————————————————–

My Personal favorite/recommended/must see goes to the temporary exhibit:
“Escape from Hong Kong: The Road to Waichow”
http://www.lcsd.gov.hk/ce/Museum/Coastal/en/section3-3-04.php

“On Christmas Day 1941, within hours of Hong Kong’s surrender to the Japanese,
a group of 68 British and Chinese officers and men made a daring night-time escape by sea,
breaking through the enemy’s encirclement and landing on the coast of mainland China…”

The exhibits  goes on to show where the escape and how they travelled;
who helped them on their way; and how they eventually reached safety.

The temp exhibits ends March 2013 so don’t miss it out!

The Hong Kong Police Museum

So here we go, visiting the museums of Hong Kong again!

The Hong Kong Police Museum
Since its a very pretty day, we decided to go to the Hong Kong Police Museum!

The Hong Kong Police Museum is a free entry museum and it can easily spend you 1-2 hours visiting!
Learning the history of Hong Kong, understanding the Triad Societies (which looks very much like those in HK movies)
and to learn how to make Heroin through the Narcotics Gallery…!

Since it is not allowed to take pictures inside the museum,  I have not taken any
picture of the place but…..I dont know why…theres this picture and…
we have a similar printing machine at Ditto Ditto too!

Plenty of parking available at the Police Museum,
there is also the Wan Chai Gap Playground nearby too!

After visiting the police museum, we went to barker road peak tram station
to walk around and had this gorgeous view of Hong Kong!

Hong Kong Museum of History

So Pauline and I finally made it to visit the Hong Kong Museum of History!
It was much awesome than we first thought and we easily spent four hours in there!

4 hours of fun for only HK$10 (US$1.2) per admission,
who can ask for more?

The Ancient street of HK was fun and remarkable!

From stone age to fishing village to streets of the early
Hong Kong to world war 2 to the Hong Kong 1997 Handover!

The Japanese Occupation period,
the sad 3 years and 8 month that Hong Kongers will never forget

Typical convenience store in the 70s-80s

and there is still so much to see!! Please visit the album for more!
